Putting Service to the Test at Be Our Guest – Can we have some more?

What is more handsome than food?   Eat right through the menu, loosen your belt, and work up a new appetite at the Beast’s castle

We finally obtained a reservation at one of Disney’s top restaurant’s! I was so excited to experience the mysteries of the Beast’s Castle.

While all the visuals and sound effects were absolutely AMAZING we were out of luck with our server..who basically forgot that we were there, ended up bringing us our requested bread after we had all completely finished our meal, and then ended up charging us for a nonexistent person.. so we need to go back and really experience it. It was clear that our neighbors at other tables were having a blast!!

After checking in with the hostess (at the end of the drawbridge), you are invited to cross the bridge, look around, and even encouraged to use the restroom and explore the entrance hall.

We were then escorted by a host who handed us a candle to help light our way to our tables. The interior is amazing. No matter where you sit, be sure to walk around and explore!  The Beast may very well be walking back and forth to his study, be wary! And don’t worry, you will be allowed to try and meet the Beast at the end of your meal.

Once you pull up your chair, watch the show! Whether it be the snow falling outside the window, or the rose as its petals fall, or the Beast as he flies into a rage. The decor is absolutely amazing.

The food was delicious as well. We ate on the deluxe dining plan – so for one point were able to pick three courses.

Because we were celebrating a birthday, I had arranged for a specialty cupcake trio that was ordered ahead of time. It included the Grey Stuff which was definitely delicious and NOT TO BE MISSED!!

We absolutely loved Be Our Guest and can’t wait to try the lunch (which involves ordering from a computer and having your food magically find you). Our dining experience was delicious but would have been more memorable with a different server – so we are definitely going back!!! The Food was glorious and definitely worth the wait, we can only ask for More another time!

Overall rating? Food = 10; Decor = 10; Service = 3.

Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show – it it worth it?

Short answer? No. For years I have had family members want to go to this and I have avoided it. Not this year. We went.

Disney advertises it as a celebration of the spirit of aloha with spellbinding dancers, drummers, and a show-stopping fire-knife performer.  There are different tiers of seating: 1, 2, and 3. If you are dining on the Disney dining plan, you are only allowed category 2 or 3 seating. This means you will be somewhere in the middle or back. While you may be able to see the stage, your view will be slightly obstructed (as depicted here).

For our 5:15pm performance, there were huge gaps in the performance on stage. We got through dinner and dessert before any spell binding dancers or drummers came out. The food wasn’t to die for. One plate of appetizers, one platter of ribs/pork/chicken/rice, and one dessert tray.  Children can separately order pizza. The only performance we actually saw (or heard from our seats) was one by Auntie Wini herself.

If you’re in the front one, category I seating, you probably get a great show whenever the performers come out. There is also a nice moment where people in the audience are asked to come out and learn the dance.

We, did not even see the fire performers because it was an impossible environment for families with small children. If you are just adults out for a good time, try it. You may love it.

YOU’VE MADE MY LIFE COMPLETE, DISNEY. I LOVE YOU SO. IS ELVIS IN THE BUILDING???

ON THE ANNIVERSARY OF ELVIS’ DEATH WE HAVE TO APPRECIATE THE FACT THAT ELVIS IS EVERYWHERE…

A talented icon, Elvis was born on January 8, 1935. He died on August 16, 1977.  At only 42 years old, he had accomplished more than most of us in a full lifetime.

Was he ever at Disneyworld? probably not. Disneyland opened on July 17, 1955. Was he there?

Disneyworld opened on October 1, 1971 – 6 years before his death. Was he there?

In an interview, his daughter Priscilla says he was such a star that he could never enjoy a typical amusement park… for obvious reasons.  Do we believe that? Some say he couldn’t go to Disneyland because it was so popular, but he did go to Liberty Amusement Park with Priscilla when the parks were closed.

Here is an impersonator at Disneyland 4th of July weekend.  Does anyone know if the real Elvis ever entered Walt’s building?

Elvis never appeared in a Disney movie as far as I know, but his songs are sometimes heard, such as here….:

RIP, KING OF ROCK AND ROLL

I never met you, but my tongue gets tied when I try to speak. Let’s walk up to the preacher and say I do. Or at least agree that you are missed.

WHERE HAVE ALL THE MOTHERS GONE? TIME GOES BY SO SLOWLY.. AND AT DISNEY..TIME CAN DO SO MUCH TO ALL THE PARENT CHARACTERS, MOSTLY THE MOMS

Walt Disney’s mom Flora died shortly after he filmed Snow White. Tragically, because of a faulty furnace, she suffocated in the new Hollywood home that was purchased because of her sons’ success after living in the home for less than a month. Walt’s mom died on the scene, but his father survived after being treated at the hospital and lived for another three years. Who doesn’t want to be able to buy a house for their parents?

Does that explain why so many Disney mom’s die tragically, either before or during each Disney film? She was alive before Snow White was filmed, so I don’t necessarily think that explains everything – but I do think that it contributes a bit – I’ve heard that Walt constantly grieved for his mom and felt partially responsible for her death.

I’ll never forget the scene where Bambi loses his mom. And I cry almost every time that Dumbo tries to visit his mom in jail.

While many of the original fairy tales include the death of parents as part of the story line, mothers are noticeably absent for most of the films, while fathers are usually present.

They say that Walt Disney was forever haunted by the death of his mother, who is now buried, along with Walt and the rest of his family, in Forest Memorial Park in Glendale California.

Time goes by slowly, especially without a mom in your life. And for Walt, as talented as he was, time went by the slowest that it could. We do know his mom had to be proud of him. What mom wouldn’t be?

A breakdown of Disney Dads on Father’s Day

King Leopold – Snow Whites’s dad, thought he was making a better life for the daughter he loved when he remarried. We know how that turned out.

Lord  Tremaine – went so far as to place an ad in the paper for his daughter Cinderella, so that she could have a mom. Hadn’t he heard of match.com?

Geppetto – the elderly impoverished woodcarver who created Pinocchio. Such a devoted dad that he swam into the belly of a whale to save his son. His courage and guidance turned a wooden puppet into a real boy. He is my favorite dad of them all.

Maurice – widowed inventor who knew that his daughter needed more than a new mom or husband to make her happy. He cultivated her thirst for knowledge, eventually helping her to save the Beast.

King Trident – also a widow. Such a devoted dad that he was willing to become Queen Ursula’s eternal slave to save his daughter Ariel.

King Hubert – knowing his devotion to his daughter, the fairies had to put him to sleep rather than allow him to learn that his daughter Aurora had succumbed to a curse.

The Great Prince – leads a frightened Bambi to his mom, constantly on the watch as his son grows up in the forest. He then teaches him how to survive upon her death.

And who could forget The Lion King?? Or Marlin (also a widow)???

See if you can name all the Disney Dad’s pictured below, taken from an image from Disney’s fan pop page, there are quite a few I forgot about, but quite a few I mentioned that are not pictured at all:

disney dad picture

Either way, the message is pretty consistent. For the most part, they love their kids….Another time maybe we will talk about the significance of all the widowed parents Disney creates!

When is a straight line NOT the shortest distance between two points?? When you’re at Disney

Staying at a Disney Resort is great. So great, in fact that one tends to get spoiled because getting from place to place barely takes any effort at all.

Your bags disappear at airport check in with the promise that they will meet you IN your hotel room. You get picked up personally at the airport by a Magic Bus that takes you directly to your Resort.

Once at the Resort you have a pool, refreshments, and entertainment. You don’t even need your wallet – everything FEELS free, because your magic band picks up the bill.

When it becomes time to get to the park, though – things get a bit complicated. How do you get there? All resorts have bus transportation to the parks. And that’s great. But getting on a bus with a crowd of people and a stroller that must be folded up is a pain in the neck.  While we should all be thankful for the door to door service, I avoid the buses AT ALL COST.

If you have stroller age kids, the buses are aggravating.  We buy park hopper passes. We walk through Epcot to get to the Magic Kingdom and avoid the bus from the Beach Club. We walk through the Magic Kingdom, through Epcot, and through the Beach and Yacht to get to Hollywood Studios.  You can also take the ferry from Magic Kingdom to Hollywood Studio. Not only are you getting exercise but it works! it’s easier! Your kids will sleep!

The one park not yet accessible by ferry or shuttle is The Animal Kingdom. I have yet to find an easier way there –

Here are the boat routes:

Boat Routes:

  • Disney’s Hollywood Studios to Walt Disney World Swan Resort, Walt Disney World Dolphin Resort, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, Disney’s Beach Club Resort, Disney’s Boardwalk Resort, and Epcot.
The Resort Monorail, makes the following stops:
  • Magic Kingdom park.
  • Disney’s Contemporary Resort.
  • Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.
  • Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.
  • Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC)

HOW TO RIDE SWITCH

roller coaster

Can’t get on a Disney ride because someone in your party doesn’t meet the height requirement? Why miss out on the fun?

Want to go anyway, and have another adult (hopefully someone you know) watch your child while you ride that roller coaster?  Well, so do a lot of people!! Which is how “RIDE SWITCH” was born.  With Rider Switch, one adult can wait with whoever does not want to or cannot ride, while the rest of the party takes the plunge and experiences the attraction.  Rider Switch is available at select attractions at all 4 Walt Disney World Resort theme parks. Here’s the list, with links to the rides:

Magic Kingdom Park
The Barnstormer
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
Splash Mountain
Stitch’s Great Escape
Tomorrowland Indy Speedway

Epcot
Frozen Ever After
Mission: SPACE
Soarin’
Test Track

Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith
Star Tours® – The Adventures Continue
Twilight Zone Tower of Terror

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park
DINOSAUR
Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain®
Kali River Rapids
Primeval Whirl

How do you do it?

The entire party must first tell a Cast Member at the ride’s entrance that they are, in fact, switching a ride.  That Cast Member will want to see your entire party and will give the “waiting adult” a Rider Switch Pass.

The first adult will then wait in line for the attraction and ride the attraction.  Often the first adult will be given a second rider switch pass somewhere along the way, to prove that they waited in line.

After the ride, the adult who just experienced the attraction will give the “waiting adult” the Rider Switch Pass and take over watching the non-riding party members.

The second adult will approach the Cast Member with the rider pass and skip the line!

Why spend time in line to wait on a ride that you have to go on alone? Isn’t half the fun on a roller coaster grabbing your friend or family member’s hand and hanging on for dear life?  I think so. I haven’t tried this yet and am hesitant to go on a roller coaster and literally take my life into my own hands.

Keep in mind, though, that many of the Disney rides, like Tower of Terror, sit you next to perfect strangers anyway. What better way to meet someone than during a 13 story plummet?   Or how about singing an Aerosmith duet as you accelerate from 0 to 60mph in 2.8 seconds?  – And if it’s Space Mountain, don’t worry. In the dark you won’t even know who’s next to you.

LEGGINGS AREN’T JUST FOR LITTLE KIDS… AND NEITHER IS DISNEY!!!

Why leggings? Leggings are fun. They are comfortable. You only live once. Why not wear those dinosaur leggings to a kids birthday party?? The kids around you will appreciate them. And maybe just maybe in a world of chaos, political horror, and stress, the kid in you will appear for a few minutes. Plus you don’t have to button or zip anything.

Disney also has the ability to bring out the kid in you. So I guess it’s not much of a surprise that A partnership between Disney and Lularoe has just been announced. It’s not going to be just leggings. The collection will also include shirts and dresses with disney designs.

Frequently described as “buttery,” brand enthusiasts contend that LuLaRoe’s leggings are the best in the world. They’re soft, durable, and thick enough to be worn as pants, especially with one of LuLaRoe’s long tops or cardigans. Popular with everyone from working moms to college students, LuLaRoe’s leggings have helped launched a brand that now includes comfortable skirts, dresses, skirts, and shawls/sweaters. They are only sold through social media!

As of now, there is no official word on when exactly this clothing line will be made public.

But I believe it will be in the next few weeks.

Also, the prices are going to go up—I was hoping they wouldn’t, but they are. Not sure how much yet.

I may not become the crazy lady on the street wearing mickey leggings to work YET but I do plan on picking up one or two pairs to wear for fun on a weekend or at a kids birthday party. Why not?

Stay on Target!! and be patient.. Star Wars is on its way to Disney!!

You can’t stop change any more than you can stop the suns from setting and change is coming to Disney!!

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is already packed with Star Wars entertainment (you can’t get away from those storm troopers when you first hit the main stage/Disney Junior entrance), and in 2019 a new Star Wars themed land is set to open in Hollywood Studio and Disneyland California!! Rumor has it that guests will be transported to a never before seen planet upon entrance to the land of Star Wars.

Star Wars Land WON’T re-create locations from the movie (disappointingly). The creators want to create new destinations. Destinations that have always been part of the Star Wars world, but not often recognized.  For those Star Wars cartographers, don’t worry – the location will still be on the map.  The land will be about 14 acres!!  Be careful, traveling through cyberspace won’t be like dusting crops!

The most familiar characters will be there and visitors will be able to enter the most memorable aircraft there is: The Millennium Falcon. Guests will get to steer the vessel through space and fire laser cannons, finding themselves in an intense battle between storm troopers and the resistance.

For food, the land has promised to feature a Mos Eisley Cantina filled with family fare.

At this point, Disney feels its the most epic creation they have ever undertaken!! I am definitely excited to visit!! Remember – your focus will determine your reality.

STROLLING TO DISNEY WITH YOUNG ONES

When you have young kids in tow, there are a lot of factors to be taken into consideration when traveling: Do you drive or take a plane? Do you bring your stroller with you or rent one?

I love our double stroller. It has everything i need when it comes to taking a walk with my kids: storage, coffee mug space, spot for my electronics, sunshade. If something were to happen to it I would lose my mind.

Sure, bringing your own stroller may seem like a logical choice. That way, you don’t have to carry them at the airport and your children are in a familiar seat.

But do you want to waste space by packing it in the car with your suitcases? What if the stroller gets stolen in stroller parking? Do you want to risk damaging an expensive stroller on the plane? Most airlines DO NOT assume liabilities for damage to strollers. Accidental damage to strollers often happens during a flight. Most airlines recommend that families with strollers bring an umbrella stroller only, because those are easy to fold.  What’s the point of an umbrella stroller? You’re going to need the storage. Trust me. An umbrella stroller WILL NOT work.

As cumbersome as it is to try and carry the children with your carry on luggage, I recommend waiting and taking advantage of the many stroller rental companies that exist for families such as yourself.

That way, you can benefit from the many advantages of a stroller without the hassle about worrying about whether the stroller will get damaged on the flight. And if the stroller gets stolen, most companies either include stroller insurance or offer it as an add-on purchase.  They deliver to your Orlando Hotel, and at prices as low as $7 or $10 a night, it’s a no-brainer when factoring the stress of what could happen to your own personal stroller.

In no particular order, receiving no benefit from these companies, here are your go-tos when it comes to stroller rentals, some even rent cribs:
